Special Note

The original 1995 Classified Shellfish Areas digital geographic file was strictly water based and had a shoreline resolution that was inconsistent with NOAA's Coastal Assessment Framework (CAF).  The original file was 'unioned' (using GIS technology) with NOAA's CAF to create this digital geography.  The file has, in part, the following characteristics; 1) Incomplete allignment to the CAF shoreline (i.e., some shellfish growing/harvest areas that appear to be - when overlayed with the CAF - positioned on land) 2) Polygon Attibute possibilities for P_TYPE of 'land' or 'water'.  The P_TYPE attribute originates with the CAF and can be used to identify those polygons that appear on land.  The vast majority of these are due to the additional detail used in the original Shellfish geography - as compared to the CAF
